Before you trust an AI sleep coach

Use these checks alongside any product profile. If a provider doesn’t answer a question, mark it unknown rather than assuming the answer is reassuring.

  1. Look for product-specific evidence

What research supports this exact product and the outcome it promises? Check who funded it, what was measured and whether independent researchers evaluated it. Testimonials alone aren’t enough.

  2. Know what the coach can see

Which wearable readings, connected apps and typed messages can it access? Check the last sync, missing nights and whether advice relies on measured data or your own entries.

  3. Add up the full commitment

Include hardware, supplies and subscriptions. Check when a trial ends, what renews, the renewal price, cancellation steps and any refund limits before you pay.

  4. Follow your data

Ask who receives your data, whether it trains AI models, how long it is kept and how to delete it. Read the policy and available controls; don’t assume a wellness app has the same protections as your clinician.

  5. Read the intended use and limits

What is it designed to do, and where can it be inaccurate? Look for limitations, excluded users and how to question or correct an answer. A confident response can still be wrong.

  6. Keep medical decisions with a clinician

Don’t use a wellness chatbot to diagnose a condition or decide whether to start, stop or change medication. If sleep problems affect your daily life, speak with a qualified clinician.

A consumer checklist, not a medical assessment. No answers or health information are collected here.

Curiosity, with a little caution

A guide to the claims.
Not a promise of better sleep.

Sleep Shifu helps you understand the growing world of AI sleep tools. Basic profiles are free. Inclusion isn’t an endorsement, and we haven’t hands-on tested these products.

This directory is informational and isn’t medical advice. It can’t diagnose or treat a sleep condition. Speak with a qualified clinician about persistent sleep concerns.

01

Start at the source

Each profile links to provider documentation and shows when it was last checked. Availability and pricing can change.

02

Keep the evidence visible

Vendor-documented features are not independent medical validation. Unknowns and limitations stay in the profile.

03

Keep your nights private

This directory collects no email addresses or health data. Search and filters run in your browser, with no analytics or external scripts.
